NICOSIA, Cyprus — Starting Friday, Cyprus will suspend roadworthiness certificates for vehicles that have not complied with the recall of defective Takata airbags, government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced.
Letymbiotis said approximately 17,000 vehicles have yet to undergo airbag replacement.
The Department of Road Transport stated that the suspension applies to vehicles whose eight-month grace period—set in February—has expired. No extensions will be granted to owners who have not scheduled a service appointment.
Vehicles with appointments already booked for October will be allowed to proceed with replacements, but no later than Oct. 31.
