FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Nearly 38,000 people in Cyprus received psychologist or psychiatrist support between January and March 2025, with 16,373 seeking professional help for the first time, according to Politis.

The data was provided by Dr. Evita Katsimiha, President of the Psychologists Association.

The report highlights a steady rise in demand for mental health services.

In 2023, a total of 109,000 individuals registered under the General Health System (GESY) accessed psychological or psychiatric care, including 17,903 first-time patients.

The increase is attributed to various factors, including the lingering effects of the pandemic, socioeconomic pressures, job insecurity, and the influence of social media on younger generations.

Experts suggest that people are now more open to seeking help, breaking stigmas that previously surrounded mental health.

The trend underscores growing awareness of mental well-being and the need for robust support systems to meet rising demand.
