FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Russian President Vladimir Putin has not issued orders to extend the Easter truce, which expired on Monday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told TASS news agency.
The ceasefire, in place from 6 p.m. Moscow time (1500 GMT) on Saturday until midnight Monday (2100 GMT Sunday), was announced during a meeting between Putin and Army General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, all units involved in the “special military operation” adhered to the ceasefire during the 30-hour period, holding their positions.
However, the ministry claimed that Ukrainian forces launched attacks near Sukha Balka and Bohatyr in Donetsk region on Monday night, which were repelled by Russian troops. These attacks reportedly caused civilian casualties and damaged infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the other hand, accused Russia of violating its self-declared ceasefire, stating that 26 Russian assault actions were carried out between midnight Saturday and noon Sunday (0900 GMT).
