Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has said Hamas will not be part of Gaza’s future governance, amid ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the militant group.
Speaking at a conference in Paris, Mr Abdelatty said there was broad consensus among Arab and Muslim nations — and even within Hamas — that the group would not play a role in post-conflict Gaza.
“Hamas has no role afterwards,” he said. “There is full agreement on this — among us as Arabs, as Muslims, and even among Hamas members. They understand clearly that they have no role going forward. That is a fact.”
Egypt has long acted as a mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The comments come as Hamas considers a peace proposal put forward earlier this week by US President Donald Trump.
