Egypt’s finance minister has called for expanding export markets to strengthen the economy, saying the private sector’s shift from importing to manufacturing and exporting shows its ability to adapt and drive growth.

“We are deeply committed to the development of the industrial sector and opening new export markets for Egyptian products,” Ahmed Kouchouk said during a field tour at the Food Africa 2025 exhibition in Cairo.

Kouchouk praised investment projects in agriculture and food industries, telling exhibitors he was “extremely pleased with the remarkable models of successful investment projects” on display.

In conversations with investors and exporters, he said he was keen to explore Egyptian experiences in production and export, and pledged readiness for extended dialogue with business partners and swift action to stimulate output.

Food Africa is one of the region’s largest specialized fairs in food and agricultural industries. Organizers said more than 1,200 Egyptian and international companies are taking part, including global firms producing in Egypt and exporting to international markets

Exhibitors welcomed the minister’s visit, saying they were capable of competing and expanding globally. Dalia Qabil, chief executive of Concept, said exhibitions are vital in marketing Egyptian products and that the minister’s presence sent a message of government support. She noted that several importers had transitioned into producers and exporters, reflecting Egypt’s competitive capabilities.

Concept’s general manager, Tamer Safwat, said Egypt is regaining its place on the global exhibition map. He pointed to competitive advantages in citrus, vegetables and other food products, and highlighted improvements in packaging, once a challenge for the sector.
