Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls Sunday with his counterparts in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Canada to coordinate global efforts for rebuilding the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
The discussions focused on preparations for the International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Gaza, set to take place in Egypt this November.
Abdelatty stressed the urgency of launching recovery and reconstruction initiatives, emphasizing that they must follow a unified framework that safeguards Palestinian rights. He said the process should align with both the Arab-Islamic recovery plan and the U.S.-backed peace proposal.
Foreign ministers from the four countries praised Egypt’s role in promoting regional stability and pledged continued cooperation with Cairo on Gaza’s recovery, particularly in the lead-up to the conference.
The outreach comes amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United States, which took effect on Oct. 10.
Under the agreement, Israel has received all 20 remaining living hostages and 12 of the 28 bodies Hamas is obligated to return. Gaza’s health authorities report more than 68,000 Palestinians killed and 170,000 injured since Israel’s military campaign began on Oct. 7, 2023, with widespread destruction across the enclave.
