Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Friday pledged Cairo’s backing for Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty during a visit to Beirut.
At a joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Madbouly said Egypt is working to keep Lebanon “away from any escalation” and safeguard its security. He condemned Israel’s violations of Lebanese sovereignty and called for an immediate withdrawal from occupied territory, respect for the cease‑fire and full implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701.
Madbouly praised Lebanon’s leadership for efforts to restore stability and strengthen state institutions, particularly the armed forces. Salam welcomed the visit as a sign of close ties between the two countries and thanked Egypt for its support in ending Israel’s occupation of parts of southern Lebanon and assisting Lebanon’s reform efforts.
Earlier, Madbouly and Salam discussed expanding cooperation in energy, transport, infrastructure, education and digital development. Madbouly also met with President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
