EU Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis toured several projects funded under Cyprus’ Recovery and Resilience Plan on Saturday, on the sidelines of the informal ECOFIN meeting held in Nicosia under the Cypriot EU Council presidency.

According to a joint statement from the Directorate‑General for Development and the Presidency Secretariat, Dombrovskis was accompanied by Finance Minister Makis Keravnos, Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides and officials from the relevant services.

The visit comes at a critical stage for the plan, which is entering its final phase, with all projects expected to be completed by August 2026.

Dombrovskis first visited Nicosia General Hospital, where he was briefed on the installation of €1.3 million in photovoltaic systems, part of a wider €10 million investment to upgrade energy efficiency in public buildings. He also toured the hospital’s radiology department, which received €2.17 million in funding as part of an €87 million package to modernize public hospitals.

The commissioner then visited the new Cyprus Blood Centre in Geri, built with €6.2 million from the Recovery and Resilience Facility to strengthen the quality and autonomy of the national blood‑donation system.

Keravnos said the health sector has received €114 million in investments through the plan, improving efficiency, accessibility and resilience through upgraded infrastructure, expanded e‑health services and workforce training.

Cyprus’ Recovery and Resilience Plan totals €1.02 billion. Many projects have already been completed, and most remaining ones are in their final stages. Nearly all required legislative reforms have been approved by parliament.

To date, Cyprus has received €589 million from the facility, with another €118 million pending under the final payment request — a disbursement that would bring absorption to roughly 70%.

The statement said the plan is on track for successful and timely completion thanks to close cooperation among all involved bodies.
