BERLIN — Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Saturday announced plans to establish a national drone defense center aimed at countering hybrid threats, including espionage.
Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Dobrindt said the growing number of drone sightings over Germany and neighboring countries poses a significant security risk.
The announcement follows reports of multiple drone incursions in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, prompting heightened defense measures. Similar incidents have recently been reported in Denmark.
German media, including Die Zeit, said the government is preparing legislation that would authorize the military to take action against drones, including shooting them down under specific circumstances.
