India is no longer a distant market for Greek businesses, as two major initiatives are set to reshape connections with the world’s fastest‑growing large economy.
Eurobank is finalizing procedures to open a representative office in Mumbai by early 2026. At the same time, AEGEAN Airlines and India’s IndiGo have entered a strategic codeshare partnership. IndiGo has already announced plans to launch direct flights between Athens and India starting in January 2026.
Together, banking infrastructure and air connectivity will create a corridor linking New Delhi and Mumbai with Athens, Nicosia and the rest of Europe.
India, with a population of 1.4 billion, a growing middle class and rapid technological progress, is emerging as a global hub of innovation, production and consumption.
For Greece, seeking new markets and multidimensional partnerships, India represents not only a trade partner but also a cultural and tourism opportunity.
Bilateral trade now approaches $2 billion annually. In 2024, Greek imports from India exceeded $1.1 billion, while exports to India stood at about $130 million.
