FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck north of the Greek island of Crete early Thursday, shaking parts of Israel, Egypt, and Cyprus, according to seismologists.
The tremor occurred at 6:19 a.m. local time at a depth of 15 kilometers (9 miles), the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The epicenter was located about 59 kilometers (37 miles) from Ágios Nikólaos and 74 kilometers (46 miles) from Irákleion on Crete.
Tremors were felt across the Aegean Islands and parts of mainland Greece, including Athens.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
