Dear Editor,
I recently read your article in the Famagusta Gazette about Robert Jack Henderson, the Dambuster, and I wanted to commend you on highlighting such an important and fascinating piece of history.
Henderson’s story is one of remarkable bravery and dedication, and it was a pleasure to see his contributions recognized.
However, I noticed that the article did not include a photograph of Henderson.
Given the significance of his role as a Flight Engineer in the Royal Air Force’s 617 Squadron during the historic Dams Raid (Operation Chastise), I believe a photo would add a personal and visual connection to the story.

It would help readers better appreciate the man behind the achievements.
And, if you don’t mind, here is a little additional background. Henderson, born in 1920 in Tarbrax, Scotland, joined the RAF in 1937 and became a key member of the Dambusters.
His technical expertise and courage earned him the Distinguished Flying Medal. After the war, he continued his service in the RAF and was stationed in various locations, including Akrotiri in Cyprus. Tragically, where as your article noted, he passed away in 1961.
Thank you for considering this suggestion, and I look forward to seeing how you continue to bring such compelling stories to light.
Best regards,
S. Crookes,
Cannock,
Staffordshire.
