A total of 10,031 people registered to vote between Jan. 2 and April 2 ahead of the May 24 general election in the Republic of Cyprus, local media reports.
Alithia said the electoral roll listed 561,000 registered voters on Jan. 2.
The May 24 vote will determine the 56 Greek Cypriot seats in the 80‑member House of Representatives, the island’s main legislative body. Members are elected for five‑year terms through a proportional representation system, with voters choosing both a party and a preferred candidate.
The election comes at a time of heightened political competition, with parties campaigning on issues ranging from the cost of living and migration to governance reforms and the stalled Cyprus negotiations. Turnout levels — and the influx of new voters — are expected to play a significant role in shaping the next parliament.
