Netanyahu orders legal case against Erdogan at International Criminal Court

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed Israel’s inter-ministerial team and the director of its International Law Department to begin preparing a legal case against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the International Criminal Court (ICC), it was reported.

The case concerns Turkey’s treatment of the Kurds and the alleged financing of Hamas.

The order followed Erdogan’s announcement that he had approached Interpol seeking a Red Notice for Netanyahu. However, that was apparently only one of a series of escalations that led to the preparation of the case.

The case is expected to focus largely on Erdogan’s attacks on Kurdish minorities in Turkey, although it will also raise his government’s alleged funding of Hamas.
