Police carried out intensified overnight patrols across Cyprus, resulting in eleven arrests for a range of offenses, authorities said Friday.
The arrests were part of targeted preventive operations aimed at deterring serious crime, maintaining public order and boosting public safety.
Those arrested face allegations including assault, theft, property damage, illegal stay in the Republic, driving under the influence of alcohol and outstanding court warrants.
During the operations, officers stopped 406 vehicles and checked 521 occupants. Police also conducted 30 inspections of premises, issuing two citations for violations.
Traffic enforcement led to 194 citations for various offenses, including 94 for speeding. Three drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, and five cases of driving under the influence of drugs were recorded following positive preliminary narcotests. Officers carried out 76 alcohol tests and 12 drug tests. Three vehicles were seized as part of ongoing investigations.
Police said the preventive operations will continue daily with increased patrols, targeted checks and rapid response measures to protect the public and safeguard order.
