Romania has tapped state reserves of drinking water to aid two southern counties after a severe supply disruption, the Interior Ministry has confirmed.
The National Committee for Emergency Situations approved the measure Tuesday, releasing water as free humanitarian aid following a drop in levels at the Paltinu Dam. Planned hydrotechnical works, combined with heavy sediment and turbulence from recent hydrological events, forced the shutdown of local supplies.
Authorities said the emergency deliveries aim to ensure basic living conditions until safe water service is restored. The shutdown has affected more than 100,000 residents, local hospitals and a power plant.
