FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Greek Confederation of Labour (SEK) organized a press conference in Strovolos on Friday, addressing workplace bullying, wage inequality, and the need for institutional reforms.
SEK revealed that its Support Line for Workplace Bullying, launched in May 2023, has received 258 complaints—198 from the private sector.
Despina Isaia, Secretary of the SEK Women’s Department, emphasized that ensuring dignity and equality in the workplace is as important as salary and benefits. She highlighted the urgency of passing legislation, such as bills on Violence and Harassment aligned with International Labor Organization’s Convention 190, to improve protections for workers.
SEK also pointed out that in Cyprus, the wage gap stands at 10.5%, with women receiving pensions 37% lower than men.
The organization urged the state to strengthen collective labor agreements and enforce pay transparency measures, as mandated by the European Directive on Pay Transparency, due by June 2026.
