FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A recent survey conducted by IMR/University of Nicosia on behalf of the Cypriot Workers’ Confederation (SEK) has highlighted significant concerns among employees regarding their salaries and economic security.
The findings, shared during a union meeting this week, revealed that 75% of respondents were dissatisfied with their wages, citing that their income failed to meet their needs.
Additionally, 62% reported difficulties in fulfilling their financial obligations, while only 7% stated they lived comfortably on their earnings.
Economic insecurity was a recurring theme, with 70% of participants expressing unease about their financial situation.
Alarmingly, 23% admitted to struggling with basic monthly expenses, often resorting to loans to make ends meet.
Concerns over the adequacy of the minimum wage were nearly unanimous, with 98% deeming it insufficient for basic living requirements.
The survey also shed light on perceived salary discrimination, with 68% of employees believing inequities exist in the market. Furthermore, 44% of respondents indicated they were considering emigration in pursuit of better pay and improved living conditions.
