The Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs)Police launched its landmark Women in Policing Network with Bases and Republic of Cyprus Police officials present.
The initiative, which the Cyprus Police is considering launching itself, is the first of its kind within the organisation and highlights its ongoing commitment to promoting equality, empowerment, and inclusivity.
SBA Police Inspector, Katerina Theodorou, who chairs the network, said: “The network seeks to foster mentorship, collaboration and shared learning, ensuring that all women in the organisation have the tools and support they need to thrive.
“It aims to provide a forum to address challenges female colleagues within our field face and provide guidance and professional development opportunities.
“This is not just a symbolic initiative, it is a practical step forward in creating an inclusive environment where women in policing can grow, lead, and succeed.
“The SBA Police Women in Policing Network will play a crucial role in advancing gender equality within the service and encouraging a culture of respect and opportunity.”
SBA Administration Chief Officer, Clare Simpson said: “This landmark initiative represents a proud moment of progress, one that will resonate well beyond the launch date, shaping the future of policing through a more balanced, representative, and empowered workforce.
“This launch alsocelebrates the invaluable contributions women continue to make in law enforcement.”
The network is also strongly supported by the male workforce and Police Chief Constable, Stephen Jupp said: “An inclusive policing environment builds trust, not only within our ranks but also with the communities we serve. It allows for better decision making, deeper empathy, and more effective problem solving. It reflects the kind of society we are sworn to protect; one that is fair, just and equitable.
“The support by our male allies and partners is essential, so let’s make this network be a legacy we build now for the next generation of woman in policing.”
