BODRUM — Prolonged heat and drought conditions have forced authorities in Bodrum and İzmir to implement scheduled water cuts, with residents urged to conserve water.

The Muğla Water and Sewerage Administration (MUSKİ) announced that Bodrum will face rotating water distribution across the district, including central neighborhoods. A detailed schedule will be released separately, officials said.

The cuts are expected to continue through early winter.

Professor Ceyhun Özçelik of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University said Bodrum has already experienced frequent unscheduled outages throughout the summer, largely due to operational issues. He warned that water levels in the Mumcular and Geyik dams remain critically low, with a combined capacity of 60 million cubic meters that cannot be replenished.

Özçelik also pointed to significant losses from leakage, estimated at 15–20 million cubic meters. Groundwater reserves are believed to hold another 10–15 million cubic meters, but he said the figures reveal serious flaws in long-term water planning.
