FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish police have detained 33 people, including 20 public officials, over alleged ties to the Gulen movement, authorities said Monday.
The raids targeted 38 suspects linked to the movement, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. Officials did not specify when the operations took place.
The Turkish government has blamed the movement for a failed 2016 coup and has since designated it a terrorist organization.
The prosecutor’s office said 20 of those detained are active public sector employees. Efforts to locate and arrest five other suspects were ongoing.
Authorities allege the suspects attempted to infiltrate the General Directorate of Security, recruiting police personnel and monitoring their loyalty to the movement.
