ALABURUN, Türkiye — Turkish Coast Guard units rescued 74 irregular migrants from four life rafts off the coast of Alaburun after they were allegedly pushed back into Turkish waters by Greek authorities.
One of the rafts carried a suspected smuggler, identified as S.Y., 52, a Turkish national.
Authorities said the man was attempting to organize illegal crossings and was wanted for 27 separate offenses.
He was taken into custody and later formally arrested by court order.
The rescued migrants were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for processing.
