FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — More than 17,000 people have been forced to evacuate as wildfires rage across Manitoba, prompting a provincewide state of emergency.
Premier Wab Kinew described the evacuation as the largest in living memory, with fires spreading across multiple regions. He has requested military assistance from Prime Minister Mark Carney to aid in evacuations and firefighting efforts, particularly in remote northern communities.
“For the first time, it’s not just one fire in one area. It’s burning in all regions. This is a sign of climate change that we have to adapt to,” Kinew said.
Military aircraft are expected to assist in transporting evacuees, while emergency shelters are being set up across the province. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as fire conditions remain extreme.
