ALL Egypt has been celebrating both King Farouk’s 31st birthday and the King’s engagement to Narriman Sadek, a beautiful 17 – year – old commoner, whose reported broken romance with a young Egyptian diplomat stirred the world in 1949.
The Royal betrothal was announced by the Premier Nahas Pasha in a midnight broadcast to the nation.
He paid a tribute to the King for having chosen a wife from the ranks of the people.
The date of the marriage, which will be Farouk’s second, was not announced, but it was expected that it will take place in Cairo, with the honeymoon aboard a yacht in the Red Sea.
