FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus lawmakers debated the March 23 highway blockade staged by members and supporters of the Hunters’ Party, with discussions turning tense in the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee .

Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis said no disciplinary violations were found, and upon the Attorney General’s recommendation, authorities opted not to pursue criminal investigations.

Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis told lawmakers that while protesters set off fireworks, their actions did not constitute criminal offenses.

Legal Committee Chairman Nikos Tornaritis warned that disruptions like the highway blockade should not go unchecked, while AKEL MP Aristos Damianou criticized the lack of accountability, calling the matter a “fiasco” with no consequences.

DIKO parliamentary representative Panikos Leonidou urged lawmakers to draft legislation to safeguard public rights and reduce disruptions.
