FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and issues affecting both nations.

Trump expressed concerns about South Africa, claiming that many white farmers in the country feel persecuted and are seeking refuge in the United States, according to Reuters.

Ramaphosa rejected the characterization, stating that such claims were inaccurate and harmful to South Africa’s international standing. He said the meeting provided an opportunity to correct what he called “misrepresentations” about his country.

In May, the United States accepted 59 white South African farmers as refugees, following Trump’s assertion that they face persecution and violence in their homeland.
