At least 31 people died when an overcrowded boat carrying undocumented migrants sank off the coast of Gambia on New Year’s Eve, the Gambian government said Monday.
Fifteen bodies were recovered in Gambian waters, while 16 were found off neighboring Senegal.
A total of 102 people were rescued, and 23 of them were hospitalized, according to the government statement.
