Instagram remains one of the most popular social media platforms, but if you’ve decided to step away permanently, deleting your account is the best option.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you remove your Instagram account in 2025.
Step 1: Open Instagram and Access Settings
Open the Instagram app on your mobile device or visit Instagram’s website on a browser.
Tap your profile icon in the bottom right corner.
Click the three-line menu in the top right corner and select Settings and Activity.
Step 2: Navigate to the Meta Accounts Center
Scroll down and tap Meta Accounts Center (Instagram is part of Meta).
Select Account Ownership and Control.
Choose Deactivation or Deletion.
Step 3: Select Your Account and Choose Deletion
If you have multiple accounts linked, select the Instagram account you want to delete.
Choose Delete Account instead of Deactivate Account (deactivation is temporary, deletion is permanent).
Tap Continue and confirm your choice.
Step 4: Enter Your Password and Finalize Deletion
Instagram will ask you to enter your password for security verification.
Once confirmed, your account will be scheduled for permanent deletion.
Instagram allows 30 days to change your mind—after that, your account and all data will be erased.
Alternative: Temporary Deactivation
If you’re unsure about deleting your account permanently, you can temporarily deactivate it instead.
This hides your profile and posts until you log back in. Follow the same steps but select Deactivate Account instead of Delete Account.
