Inflation in the United States climbed to 2.4% in May compared to a year earlier, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The increase matched analysts’ expectations but was up from April’s 2.3% rate. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, edged down to 2.8%.
Economists are watching how President Donald Trump’s tariffs will impact prices. In May, new tariffs were imposed on several imported goods.
