FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – U.S. President Donald Trump extended the deadline for ByteDance Ltd. to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations, allowing the app to remain available as negotiations continue, the White House said Tuesday.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration wants to ensure a deal is completed, emphasizing that Trump “does not want TikTok to go dark.” The latest 90-day extension follows two previous delays since January.
The move comes amid ongoing national security concerns over Chinese ownership of the app. In 2024, then-President Joe Biden signed a law mandating ByteDance to divest TikTok within 270 days, though legal challenges stalled enforcement.
