FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — The Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) responded to two maritime emergencies off the island’s coast Thursday, involving a waterlogged sailing vessel and a medical evacuation.
At around 7 p.m., authorities received an alert that three individuals aboard a sailboat off Paphos were in distress due to water entering the vessel. A patrol boat from the Port and Marine Police, along with a rescue vessel from Paphos Airport’s lifeguard unit, were immediately dispatched.
The three passengers were safely recovered and brought ashore. After the flooding was brought under control, the sailboat was towed to the Paphos fishing harbor.
Earlier that afternoon, around 4:20 p.m., the JRCC conducted a medical evacuation for an Egyptian national aboard a Cyprus-owned fishing vessel 12 nautical miles north of Cape Akamas. The individual was reportedly exhibiting symptoms consistent with a cardiac episode.
He was transferred by marine police and brought ashore, where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to Paphos General Hospital.
