FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A former police officer has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for violating the civil rights of Breonna Taylor during a fatal raid in 2020.
The 46-year-old fired his weapon during the incident, with bullets penetrating Taylor’s apartment walls and a neighboring unit. No individuals were struck by the gunfire.
He was charged with excessive use of force. Despite the Justice Department requesting a one-day sentence, the judge imposed a longer term.
Taylor’s death, along with that of George Floyd, sparked global protests under the Black Lives Matter movement.
