FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – the Greek Cypriot side must actively pursue meaningful progress in upcoming five-party talks on the Cyprus issue, DISY party leader Annita Demetriou has said.
Speaking at the gathering, Demetriou stressed that future meetings must confront the core aspects of the dispute and expose Turkish intransigence and provocation.
“The only party that should be put on the spot is Turkey, for its insistence on unreasonable and unacceptable demands for a two-state solution,” she said.
Demetriou also warned against accepting low-level political measures as a precondition for resuming substantive negotiations, and cautioned against domestic division and untimely statements that risk undermining the agreed framework for resolving the issue.
She added that Nicosia must make it clear to Ankara that its European future and relationship with the EU depend on adopting a constructive stance in efforts to reach a settlement.
