FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – An orange heat warning has been issued for Cyprus, with temperatures expected to soar to 44°C inland and 34°C in the mountains.

The alert is in force from 11am to 5pm, while outdoor work has been banned until 4pm in affected regions to protect public safety.

As flames continue to ravage the Limassol district, police patrols are sweeping through fire-hit communities to check for trapped or injured residents.

Four police teams comprising 50 officers have been deployed to inspect homes and other buildings left scorched by the inferno.

So far, there have been no reports of missing persons, according to police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou. Authorities say they are investigating all possible causes of the fire, as the nation remains on edge in the face of extreme weather and mounting damage.
