FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Türkiye is on high alert as soaring temperatures and strong winds fuel a growing number of wildfires across the country.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli warned on Wednesday that the risk of further blazes will intensify in the coming days, with authorities already battling fires in five provinces—Sakarya, Antalya, Eskisehir, Bilecik and Denizli.
The wildfire in Urla district of Izmir has been brought under control, but aerial and ground crews remain deployed across the country. Helicopters, planes and fire trucks have been mobilised to tackle the flames and protect threatened areas.
Yumakli said more than 4,000 wildfires have erupted in Türkiye since the start of the year. With heat expected to build through the week, officials have confirmed that the country will remain on full fire alert until October 15.
