FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 37-year-old man was arrested early Sunday near the village of Prodromos as police carried out forest patrols to prevent wildfires.
Officers stopped a vehicle near the village roundabout shortly after midnight and conducted a search. Inside, they found a hand flare, 22 firecrackers, a folding baton, a pointed switchblade, a slingshot and iron pellets.
The man was taken into custody for possession of prohibited items and will appear before the District Court later Sunday for a detention order.
The case is under investigation by the Morphou Crime Detection Department.
