FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Temperatures across Cyprus remained dangerously high Monday, with the mercury climbing to 43 degrees Celsius (109°F) in inland areas, according to the Meteorological Service.
Coastal regions also faced intense heat, with temperatures reaching 36°C in the east, south, and north, and 34°C along the western coast and in higher elevations.
The weather is expected to remain clear and hot throughout the week.
Tonight, skies will stay mostly clear. Patchy fog or low cloud cover may form in some areas during the early morning hours. Winds will be light, blowing northwesterly to northeasterly at 3 Beaufort, occasionally reaching moderate levels. Seas will be calm to slightly choppy. Overnight temperatures will drop to 25°C inland, 26°C along the coast, and 23°C in the mountains.
Tuesday will bring continued clear skies and extreme heat. Winds will vary across the island, blowing northerly to northeasterly in central, northern, and eastern regions, and southwesterly to northwesterly in the south and west.
Speeds will remain light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting generally to southwesterly to northwesterly by afternoon.
Seas will remain calm to slightly choppy. Temperatures will again peak at 43°C inland, 36°C along the eastern, southern, and northern coasts, and 34°C in the west and mountainous areas.
Tuesday night will remain mostly clear, with a chance of patchy fog or low cloud cover in the early hours. Winds will be light and variable, mainly northwesterly to northeasterly at 3 Beaufort. Seas will be calm to slightly choppy.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be clear and exceptionally hot. Temperatures will rise slightly on Wednesday and remain elevated Thursday, staying well above seasonal averages.
Friday, which marks the Feast of the Assumption, will remain mostly clear.
