Greece remains on alert for fires

Greece remains on high alert for wildfires.

On Monday, firefighters battled multiple wildfires in several areas, prompting evacuations and emergency alerts.

A blaze in Ancient Nemea, Corinthia, triggered a 112 alert for evacuation. Authorities deployed 92 firefighters, 28 vehicles, six aircraft, and one helicopter, along with volunteers and municipal water trucks.

In Messinia, residents of Petralona were urged to evacuate toward Meligalas due to a wildfire in the area. In Galatas, Aetolia-Acarnania, 47 firefighters and three aircraft responded to a fire in low vegetation, while residents of Kato Evinochori were told to remain on alert.

A fire in Megali Volvi, Thessaloniki, mobilized 48 firefighters, 13 vehicles, two aircraft, and one helicopter. In Kallitechnoupoli, Attica, a forest fire drew 105 firefighters, 28 vehicles, five aircraft, and five helicopters, including one for coordination. A 112 alert was issued to residents.

In Fraxia, near Vonitsa, 50 firefighters, 13 vehicles, four aircraft, and one helicopter responded to a blaze in rural forestland.

Authorities warned of high fire risk due to dry conditions and urged the public to follow evacuation orders and safety guidelines.
