Thirty-four Europe-based companies have secured spots on the latest Defense News Top 100, the industry’s most prestigious ranking based on defense revenues from the previous year.
The European defense sector saw a robust rebound in 2024, with total revenues climbing from $133.34 billion in 2023 to $158.87 billion—a 19.15% increase. The surge was driven by heightened security concerns stemming from the war in Ukraine, rising tensions in Eastern Europe, and increased NATO defense spending.
The United Kingdom led the region, with six companies generating $47.75 billion in defense revenue—up 13.9% from the previous year. France followed with five firms posting a 27.5% jump to $35.39 billion. Together, the two countries accounted for nearly 52% of Europe’s total defense earnings.
Italy ranked third, contributing $16.04 billion from two companies, reflecting a 9.3% rise. Turkey also made a strong showing, with five defense firms recording a 28.02% increase and a combined revenue of $10.72 billion.
Growth was strongest among manufacturers of ground systems, missiles, and munitions, while aerospace firms saw more modest gains.
The rankings underscore Europe’s renewed focus on defense autonomy and industrial capacity amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
