Ensuring affordable and sufficient electricity for citizens and businesses remains a top priority for the Cypriot government, especially amid ongoing geopolitical shifts and economic challenges, President Nikos Christodoulides said in a message delivered Tuesday.
Speaking at the annual General Assembly of the Electricity Market Association, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis read the president’s remarks, which emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting society through energy reform.
The statement highlighted the upcoming launch of Cyprus’s competitive electricity market on October 1, 2025, calling it the beginning of a new era. Officials say the move will lay solid foundations for the national economy and offer fairer prices to consumers.
Energy, the president noted, is not only a driver of growth but also a prerequisite for enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.
