TOBRUK, Libya — Thirteen people have survived a shipwreck off the coast of Tobruk, Libya, according to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR).
The vessel was carrying 74 people when it capsized. Dozens remain missing, UNHCR said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Most of the passengers were refugees from Sudan.
Sudan has been gripped by civil war since spring 2023, when fighting broke out between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the Sudanese army. The conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced more than 13 million people.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
