VIENNA — Austria’s tourism industry reached a new milestone this year, recording 116 million overnight stays from January through August, a 0.3% increase compared to the same period last year, Statistics Austria said Friday.
The growth was driven primarily by foreign visitors, who accounted for 87 million stays. Domestic tourism contributed approximately 29 million overnight stays.
August, traditionally the busiest month of the summer season, saw more than 21 million overnight stays, marking a 0.7% year-on-year rise.
“Tourism in Austria continues to boom,” said Statistics Austria Director General Manuela Lenk, adding that international guests made up nearly three-quarters of all stays.
