Customs agents in Cyprus voted Saturday to end their indefinite strike and return to work on Monday, following assurances from the Finance Ministry that key demands related to the rollout of a new import system will be met.
The decision was made during an emergency general assembly held at Limassol port, according to Christos Akaros, president of the Customs Brokers Association.
Akaros said the ministry had provided written guarantees that most of the agents’ concerns would be addressed starting Monday, and that formal confirmation would be sent in writing.
Asked why customs agents would not resume duties immediately, Akaros explained that implementation procedures for the new system began Saturday and the Customs Department would not be operating over the weekend.
The strike had caused a buildup of shipping containers at Limassol port, prompting calls for swift resolution to avoid further disruption to trade and logistics.
