Only 10 case files have been submitted to the Legal Service in Cyprus following a four-year police investigation into the country’s controversial “golden passport” scheme, according to local media reports.
It is reported that dozens of major cases remain unresolved, with the investigation described as moving at a “turtle’s pace.”
The scheme, which granted citizenship to foreign investors in exchange for large financial contributions, was suspended in 2020 after allegations of abuse and corruption.
More than 100 cases were reportedly referred to police for investigation, including several involving investors suspected of criminal activity. Former Supreme Court President Miron Nikolatos had previously flagged serious legal concerns during the review process.
A meeting is expected to be held at the Legal Service in early November to assess the progress of the investigation. Authorities have faced mounting criticism over delays and lack of transparency in handling the scandal.
