Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has received an official invitation to attend the upcoming international summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where a ceasefire agreement for Gaza is expected to be signed, according to the Egyptian presidency.

The invitation was extended during a phone call between Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The summit will be co-chaired by el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump and aims to formalize the recently brokered truce between Israel and Hamas.

While no specific date has been announced, the summit is tentatively scheduled for early next week. Leaders from more than 20 countries are expected to attend, including representatives from the United Nations and European Union.

The ceasefire agreement, facilitated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States, marks a significant step toward ending the conflict in Gaza and initiating humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts. However, a Hamas political bureau member told Agence France-Presse that the group will not participate in the signing ceremony.

President Christodoulides expressed Cyprus’s full support for the agreement and praised Egypt’s role in securing the deal. Both leaders emphasized the urgency of beginning reconstruction and stabilizing the region.

The summit is expected to address key provisions of the ceasefire, including the release of hostages, the deployment of international forces, and the restoration of essential services in Gaza.
