Dutch politician Geert Wilders has suspended all election campaign activities following threats against his safety, his office has confirmed.
Wilders, 62, who currently leads opinion polls ahead of the October 29 national election, said in a post on X that the Netherlands’ counterterrorism agency, NCTV, informed him he was identified as a potential target by a group allegedly planning attacks on politicians.
According to Wilders, the agency later said the group is no longer considered an active threat after two suspects were arrested in Belgium on Thursday.
Wilders had already canceled a scheduled debate with other party leaders set for Friday afternoon.
