President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the critical importance of early diagnosis, ongoing research, and unwavering support for families affected by childhood cancer during the inauguration of the “Nikolas Theologou Park” in Lakatamia this week.
Speaking at the ceremony, Christodoulides cited revealing statistics: between 2018 and 2022, Cyprus recorded an average of 22 new cancer cases annually among children up to age 14, and 15 cases among adolescents aged 15 to 19.
He announced that a key step toward strengthening pediatric cancer services is the government’s decision to establish a new Pediatric Oncology Clinic in Cyprus.
The park, created in memory of all children lost to cancer, was initiated by the family of Nikolas Theologou, who died from the disease.
The space is intended as a tribute and a place of reflection for families and the broader community.
