Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed he will seek re-election in 2026, according to reports.
Netanyahu has faced widespread international condemnation following Israel’s military operations in Gaza since 7 October 2023, which have reportedly resulted in over 68,000 Palestinian deaths.
Domestically, the prime minister has also come under pressure from within his own political ranks. Several former Israeli ministers have publicly called for his resignation.
The announcement sets the stage for a contentious election cycle as Netanyahu seeks to extend his long-standing leadership amid deepening divisions at home and abroad.
