Tufan Erhürman, the newly elected Turkish Cypriot leader, has addressed supporters in Nicosia, calling the vote a win for unity and the Turkish Cypriot people.
“This election is not about winners and losers. The people of Cyprus won. Brotherhood won,” Erhürman said in his victory speech.
He acknowledged the challenges faced during the campaign but emphasized his commitment to inclusivity.
“Those who know me know I hold no hatred. My heart is open. I promise to embrace everyone,” he said.
Erhürman vowed to avoid triumphalism and focus on the work ahead. “There will be no intoxication of victory. We have responsibilities to our children. From today, we will continue to embrace everyone. We said we would win together — and we did. Now we will govern this beautiful country beautifully.”
He also thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan for their congratulations and support during the election process.
Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement Sunday congratulating Erhürman on his victory.
The ministry praised the ‘peaceful conduct of the vote’ .
“We congratulate Mr. Tufan Erhürman, according to unofficial results,” the statement read.
