Slovenia called on the European Union on Monday to take a more active role in sustaining the ceasefire in Gaza and advancing the peace process, the Foreign Ministry said.
In a joint appeal with Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal and Spain, Slovenia urged the EU to help implement steps outlined in the Gaza peace plan and to respond urgently to the worsening humanitarian situation.
Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon said Israel must allow humanitarian access to Gaza and respect the role of United Nations agencies.
Slovenia, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council, formally recognized the State of Palestine in June 2024.
